What is Advanced Search?
Advanced Search is Brand24's Boolean search tool. It lets you filter mentions using:
AND — both conditions need to appear
OR — at least one of the conditions needs to appear
NOT — excludes mentions containing a condition
"quotation marks" — searches for an exact phrase
(parentheses) — groups conditions together
Proximity search ~ — finds words appearing within a specified distance from each other
Advanced Search searches across the content and title of a mention, as well as its host and author.
For example:
(Garmin OR Samsung) AND "Apple Watch"
This search finds mentions containing Apple Watch together with either Garmin or Samsung.
Why would I need it?
Sometimes monitoring a keyword isn't enough.
Your project may contain several different conversations about a brand, product, or industry. Advanced Search lets you narrow those conversations down without creating another project.
You can use it to:
monitor competitors in the context of a particular product,
find conversations comparing your brand with alternatives,
exclude irrelevant meanings of an ambiguous keyword,
look for exact phrases,
find words appearing close to each other,
reduce noise in your monitoring,
create reusable searches for reports and notifications.
Where can I find Advanced Search?
Go to Mentions or another view with the search bar at the top of the dashboard.
Next to the search field, click Advanced to open Advanced Search.
Here you'll find the query editor together with templates and AI Helper.
You don't need to open the Advanced Search panel every time you search. In projects where Advanced Search is enabled, searches entered through the regular search field at the top of the dashboard also use Advanced Search.
How to create an Advanced Search query
There are several ways to get started.
1. Use AI Helper
You don't need to know Boolean syntax to use Advanced Search.
Open AI Helper and describe what you want to find in plain language.
For example:
mentions about Apple Watch from Garmin or Samsung
AI Helper will turn your request into an Advanced Search query, such as:
(Garmin OR Samsung) AND "Apple Watch"
You can apply the generated query immediately or edit it before searching.
2. Start with a template
Advanced Search also includes ready-made templates for common monitoring scenarios.
Brands + product
(brand1 OR brand2) AND "product phrase"
Use this when you want to find several brands mentioned in connection with a particular product.
One brand among alternatives
brand1 AND (brand2 OR brand3 OR brand4)
This can help you find conversations where your brand appears together with one or more competitors.
Words close to each other
"word1 word2"~5
This finds mentions where the specified terms appear within five words of each other.
3. Build your own query
Already familiar with Boolean operators? Create your own query with all the operators mentioned above.
Useful Advanced Search examples
Monitor competitors around a product
Suppose you want to see when Garmin or Samsung is discussed in connection with Apple Watch.
Use:
(Garmin OR Samsung) AND "Apple Watch"
This gives you a much narrower set of conversations than searching for all three brands separately.
Remove irrelevant mentions
Imagine you're interested in the Apple TV device, but your results also contain conversations about streaming and subscriptions.
You could search:
"apple tv" NOT (streaming OR subscription)
This helps remove unwanted contexts from the results.
Find terms appearing close together
Sometimes two words appearing anywhere in a long article isn't enough to make the result relevant.
With proximity search, you can specify how close they should be:
"complaint recommendation"~5
This searches for mentions where the two terms appear within five words of each other.
Save your Advanced Search for later
If you've created a useful query, you don't have to rebuild it every time.
You can save an Advanced Search query as a filter together with other filters available in Brand24.
This is particularly useful for searches you want to reuse in:
regular analysis,
comparisons,
reports,
notifications.
Advanced Search and Brand Assistant
Advanced Search and Brand Assistant can work together, but they serve different purposes.
Brand Assistant can help you understand what you should investigate. For example, you can ask it about negative opinions surrounding a product or identify what looks like noise versus an important signal in your project.
Advanced Search then lets you translate that monitoring idea into precise text rules and filter your mentions accordingly. AI Brand Assistant can however help you build a query you can use in Advanced Search.
Availability
Advanced Search is available in the Business and Enterprise plans.
For a newly created project, Advanced Search may not be available immediately. The project's mentions need to finish indexing before Advanced Search can be used.
