What are TikTok video transcriptions?
A lot can be said in a TikTok video without ever making it into the caption.
Brand24 can now detect your monitored keywords in the spoken content of TikTok videos. This means that when your keyword is said in a video, the video can appear as a mention in your project - even if the keyword isn't included in its caption.
This helps you discover conversations about your brand, products, competitors, or other monitored topics that could otherwise be missed.
How does it work?
When a monitored keyword appears in the video's available transcription, Brand24 can collect the TikTok as a mention.
In the Mentions tab, you'll see the relevant fragments of the spoken content directly on the mention card, marked with a microphone icon.
Each fragment includes a timestamp, so you can see when your keyword was mentioned in the video.
If your keyword appears multiple times, you'll initially see up to three fragments. Click Show X more to display the remaining occurrences.
The timestamp tells you when the keyword appears in the video. Opening the TikTok itself will play the video from the beginning.
Why would I need it?
TikTok video descriptions don't always tell the whole story. A creator might spend several minutes reviewing your product, discussing your latest campaign, or mentioning your competitor without putting any of it in the description.
TikTok video transcriptions help you:
Discover mentions that would be missed by description-only monitoring
Find out when your brand or keyword is actually spoken in a video
Quickly understand the context around a mention
Spot reviews, feedback, recommendations, and potential PR issues
Analyze relevant TikTok content without watching every video from start to finish
Which TikTok videos can be monitored this way?
Video transcriptions are currently available for monitored TikTok profiles when captions are available for the video.
If there's a TikTok profile that's particularly important to your brand, you can add it to monitoring:
Go to Project Settings.
Select Additional Sources.
Find the TikTok Profiles section.
Paste the link to the TikTok profile you want to monitor.
You only need to add a TikTok profile once - Brand24 will track matching mentions from that profile across all your projects.
Monitoring starts primarily with new content after a profile is added. Older videos from the profile won't automatically be collected and transcribed.
After adding a new profile, mentions based on spoken content may take a few hours to appear in your project.
What about excluded keywords?
Your excluded keywords apply to spoken content as well.
If an excluded keyword appears in the video's transcription, the mention can be excluded from your project - even if that word doesn't appear in the TikTok caption.
Keep this in mind when using longer lists of excluded keywords.
What if my keyword appears in both the caption and the video?
If your monitored keyword appears both in the TikTok caption and in the spoken content, the mention card will show the relevant transcription fragments with timestamps.
The original caption is still part of the mention. You can find it in the mention preview and exports, and it remains searchable.
A few things to remember
TikTok video transcriptions depend on captions being available for a particular video. Because of this, Brand24 may not detect every spoken mention from a monitored TikTok profile.
The wording in a transcription may also differ from your monitored keyword, which can affect whether the mention is detected.
If you know your keyword was said in a video but can't find the mention, check whether the profile is being monitored and whether captions are available for the video.
